List Of Math Olympiad Competitions For Primary Level

Each year there are many Math Olympiad competitions for children in primary schools. These competitions provide a venue for math enthusiasts to showcase their prowess and empower their application profile for DSA.

Math Olympiad Competitions | Primary Achievers

SASMO

Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) is one of the largest Math competitions in Asia, with over 20,000 participants from over 20 countries annually. Currently in Singapore, more than 100 schools participate in SASMO every year. SASMO is open to all students from Primary 2 to 6. Participants attempt 25 questions over 90 minutes, with negative marking for the first 15 questions. Students who answer all the questions correctly will receive the Perfect Score Award, top 8% performers will receive the Gold Award, next 12% performers will receive the Silver Award, and the next 20% performers will receive the Bronze Award.

Participants registering through their schools must do so by 2nd March 2022, with the competition being held on 8th 7th April 2022.

Participants registering as private candidates must do so by 20th March 2022, with the competition being held on 9th April 2022. (You can register as a private candidate here)

SMKC

Singapore Math Kangaroo Contest (SMKC) is open to all students from Primary 1 to 6. Participants in Primary 1 and 2 attempt 24 questions, and participants in attempt Primary 3 through 6 attempt 30 questions, over 90 minutes with negative marking for each incorrect answer. Students who answer all the questions correctly will receive the Perfect Score Award, top 8% performers will receive the Gold Award, next 12% performers will receive the Silver Award, and the next 20% performers will receive the Bronze Award.

Participants registering through their schools must do so by 30th March 2023, with the competition being held on 9th April 2023.

Participants registering as private candidates must do so by 10th March 2023, with the competition being held on 26th March 2023. (You can register as a private candidate here)

NMOS

National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore (NMOS) is an annual national Math competition organized by NUS High School of Mathematics and Science. The competition is open to students who have not yet enrolled in Primary 6. The top 20 winners of NMOS are shortlisted to train for the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad.

Students can register for the competition through their schools between 1st March 2022 and 15th April 2022.

The competition consists of two rounds:
Preliminary Round – to be conducted on 29th June 2022, duration of the test is 90 minutes (30 questions)
Special Round – to be conducted on 26th July 2022, duration of the test is 90 minutes (20 questions)

Medals are awarded to the top 30 participants of the competition based on their combined scores in both the preliminary and special round.

Mathlympics

Mathlympics is an annual national Math competition organized by Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). The competition is open to students who have not yet enrolled in Primary 6. The top 500 performers are awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze based on their performance. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers on Mathlympics.

Students can register for the competition through their schools by 15th October 2022.

The competition consists of two rounds:
Preliminary Round – to be conducted on 30th October 2022, duration of the test is 90 minutes (28 questions)
Final Round – to be conducted on 22nd January 2023, consists of the Vault Event (90 minutes, 28 questions) and Sprint Event (30 minutes, 30 questions)

RIPMWC

Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World Contest (RIPMWC) is an annual national Math competition organized by Raffles Institution. The competition consists of 2 categories – Junior Category for Primary 1 through 5 students, and Open Category for Primary 6 students. The top 2% performers will be awarded a Certificate of High Distinction, next 13% will be awarded a Certificate of Distinction, and the next 15% will be awarded a Certificate of Merit.

Students can register for the competition through their schools by 22nd March 2022.

The competition consists of two rounds:
Round 1 – online test to be conducted on 29th March 2022, duration of the test is 60 minutes (20 questions)
Round 2 – written test to be conducted on 28th April 2022, duration of the test is 60 minutes (15 short answer questions for Junior Category, 7 short answer and 4 long answer questions in Open Category)

APMOPS

Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) is an annual national Math competition organized by Hwa Chong Institution. The competition is open to Primary 6 students. The top 1.5% performers will be awarded Platinum Award, next 2.5% will be awarded Gold Award, next 6% will be awarded Silver Award, and the next 10% will be awarded Bronze Award. Students can register for the competition through their schools by 25th March 2022.

The competition consists of two rounds:
First Round – to be conducted on 7th April 2022, duration of the test is 120 minutes (30 questions)
Invitation Round – Cancelled in 2022 due to network outage

SIMOC

Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge is an annual national Math competition which not only tests a candidate’s ability to solve mathematical problems, but also to work as a team to solve puzzles. The competition is open to students from Primary 2 through 6. Candidates are awarded Perfect Score, Gold, Silver, or Bronze Awards based on their performance.

The competition consists of three events:
Math Olympiad Contest – individual written test, duration is 90 minutes (25 questions)
Math Warriors Competition – team games testing students’ strategic thinking and mental math ability
Mind Sports Challenge – teams attempt 10 IQ Logic questions and 4 puzzles
